RALEIGH (April 5, 2017) — North Carolina will likely face significant reductions in federal funding for community needs, making our state’s financial future uncertain. We also have to help Eastern North Carolina rebuild from Hurricane Matthew and need to invest in the things that make North Carolina a great place to live, like our roads, our schools and protecting our environment.

The Senate’s pursuit of more income tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations makes all of this impossible without raising sales taxes, property taxes, or both. These tax cuts won’t strengthen our economy, and they will keep the people and places in our state from doing well, from connecting to opportunity and from getting ahead. Now is not the time for another round of tax cuts for the wealthy and profitable corporations.
